Overview:
The goal of the New York Presbyterian PM&R Interventional Spine Fellowship is to train a dedicated physician to practice advanced diagnostic skills and comprehensive management of acute and chronic spine disease. The fellow will encounter a wide spectrum of conditions affecting the spine including those treated by medical, interventional, and surgical measures.
The NYP Och Spine Center is a world-class multidisciplinary facility with on-site clinics, fluoroscopy and procedure suites, imaging (ultrasound, x-ray, CT and MRI), electrodiagnostics lab, multiple physical therapy gyms, and advanced surgical care. The fellow will work, learn, and be assessed in this dynamic environment under the guidance of the program director and its many faculty.
Faculty include fellowship-trained spine and musculoskeletal specialists from PM&R, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Radiology. The fellow will be exposed to a broad range of advanced spine care to promote excellence in the clinical skills, knowledge, and management of spine disorders.
Advanced procedures will be taught including ultrasound and fluoroscopic-guided percutaneous interventions, electrodiagnostic studies, neuromodulation, regenerative orthobiologics and other procedures for the care of patients with spine and associated disorders.

This program is intended to develop future leaders in spine medicine and interventional physiatry, who have exceptional skill in the diagnosis and management of spine conditions, including conservative treatment, interventional procedures, and a full understanding of surgical treatments in order to arrange and appropriate referral. The fellow will use every opportunity we have for collaboration between services and departments in order to ultimately synthesize the best possible care for patients with spine disorders.
The fellow will have an integral role in education through interactions with residents and medical students, and by contributing to and organization of didactics. The fellow will work with the Och spine surgery fellows on educational multidisciplinary conferences. The fellowship will promote scholarly work and have a clinical research requirement. The fellow will be expected to publish at least one manuscript in a peer reviewed journal over the course of their fellowship.

Mission and Aims
Program's mission statement
To train well-rounded and collegial graduates in musculoskeletal and spine medical practice. By incorporating up to date knowledge, application of advanced interventional & minimally invasive procedures, and integration of multidisciplinary care modalities, fellows will be prepared to treat advanced musculoskeletal and spine related conditions and collaborate care between disciplines.
Program aims:
- Cultivate clinicians that are comfortable with caring for the full spectrum of spine-related conditions.
- Provide a multi-disciplinary, collaborative, and progressive learning environment to help nurture the application of innovative approaches of clinical science rooted in the foundation of evidence-based medicine.
- Produce graduates that are confident and highly trained in advanced interventional and minimally invasive procedures, especially those which involve fluoroscopy.
- Produce graduates competent in managing sports-related pain and present opportunities to train in ultrasound guided procedures.
- Inspire and create opportunities for fellows to develop scholarly contributions which complement clinical interests and facilitate career and academic advancement.
- Offer opportunities for fellows to learn from research faculty, be involved in research trials, and ultimately disseminate information to local, regional, and professional conferences.
- Graduates are expected to have the knowledge and skillset to teach at the national level.
- Produce excellent, independent practitioners who will be leaders in their discipline.

Cervical: 20% percentage
Thoracic: 10% percentage
Lumbar: 70% percentage
